September 11th Meeting & Demo: Christmas Gift Projects!

Sep 11 2010

With Christmas approaching and more people heading back indoors since summer is ending, now is a great time to get an early start on Christmas Gift Projects! We have countless plans in our shop library if you need any gift ideas, toys or otherwise. We also have a lot of scrap wood that you are encouraged to use, which is perfect for many of these projects! We will have a demonstration on a handful of popular gifts, for both adults and children, and will offer recommendations on how to produce memorable gifts for anyone on your gift list! Some ideas and skills they can help you practice are:

-Christmas Ornaments (Scroll Saw, Woodturning, Carving, Staining, Finishing)

-Kitchen tools (Woodturning, Bandsaw, Scroll Saw, Non-Toxic Finising)

-Jewelry Boxes (Bandsaw, Scroll Saw, Joinery, Glue-ups)

-Children's Toys (Non-Toxic Finishing, Staining, Painting)

-Marquetry (Scroll Saw, Bandsaw, Wood Selection, Glue-Ups)

-Fine Wooden Pens (Woodturning, Glue-Up,

-And many more! There's something for everyone!

In addition to projects for your friends and family, we have also announced our very first Permanent Free Project, which is Children's Christmas Toys, for donation to local charities. Gifts for girls are in high demand as many wooden toys are traditionally biased toward boys: Cars, Firetrucks, toy guns, etc. We could use more dolls, painted animals, "galloping" ponies, and so on. All you have to do is leave the toy with CW when you are finished and there is no hourly charge for your use of the shop! We will facilitate the donations on behalf of CW as a group effort, through our connections with other local woodworking clubs.

September 11th @ 10:30. Hope to see you there, and remember, guests are always welcome!

September's Free Project: SHARPENING!

Sep 1 2010

September is the perfect month to sharpen your chisels, plane blades, marking knives, scrapers, etc. before we all head inside for those Fall & Winter projects! All sharpening time is FREE for the month of September. We have grinders, buffers, wire wheels, waterstones (1,000 & 8,000 grit), diamond hones, strops, and much more! Response to free projects has been slow for July & August, but you REALLY don't want to miss this one! Sharpening can be a lengthy process when you're refining your technique, so take advantage of that time while you don't have to pay for it! Call the shop director any time to set an appointment!

See you on the 11th!

August's FREE PROJECT: "Jigs & Shop Gadgets", and announcing our first PERMANENT Free Project!

Aug 12 2010

This month's Free Project is "Jigs & Shop Gadgets". This is a great opportunity for members to make simple things like Bench Hooks, Planing Chutes, or Winding Sticks and hone some of their skills! We have countless plans and materials for free at the shop; the only thing you need to supply is the labor!

We encourage all members to take advantage of this opportunity! The only requirement is that your monthly membership is paid! Remember, Free Projects change monthly, so you have less than three weeks to reap the benefits!

PERMANENT Free Project: Children's [Christmas] Toys, for donation to local charities! Just leave the toy with CW when it's completed, and there's no charge to make it! Girls toys are especially needed! We already have the communication in place to facilitate the donations through our club connections!

Let's join the other great Colorado clubs in contributing to those who are less fortunate!
